Artist Statement

Growing up in small town Canada, my reality is beyond my childhood imagination. I never even thought to dream I would live in Southern California, Las Vegas, or New York City.  We may live in a global community, but each city is a totally different world.  I like recognizing comedy that is tailored towards a specific location.  So whenever I have a few bucks, my first choice is to wander – I’m an exceptional packer.
I take inspiration from the irony of life’s timing.  Reoccurring numbers, the collective conscious, and friend’s overlapping paths, make me smile.  My list of “life lessons” includes some pricey bills and buzz kills to my ego; but these setbacks make me laugh the hardest, and give me material to write about.
I like art that is over-the-top in a subtle way—the campy mundane.  I think certain sitcoms of the late 20th/early 21st century, like Sex and the City, Will & Grace, and Friends, capture this aesthetic with realistic plots acted out in a theatrical way.  Brilliance in my mind is, a witty line that is delivered without a pause to impose notice, or a background joke without camera focus to ensure deliverance.  My dream is to bring back the sitcom, but in a modern way.
